Book your removalist, Pencil in a date and keep in contact with any changes in plenty of time
Garages and sheds can be time consuming and often have items that aren’t always needed all of the time so get these started in advance
Moving house is a great time to declutter. Sell items you’ve been thinking about selling for a while, dispose of items no longer needed or working, donate to charity, clothes crockery toys etc.
Make a list of utilities, banks etc that you need to contact so you can have all ready to go for your new place. Bear in mind mail redirect with the post office.
Think about your beloved pets and arrange for them to go to a friends or kennels while you move.
1 week to go
Start packing. Tackle one room at a time. Clothes in portarobes or use up suitcases and bags. Wrap fragile items in paper or bubble wrap. Double tape across the bottom of the box and tape across the opposite way. Put layers of paper at the bottom of the box then place items in the box leaving no gaps in between. Put extra layers of paper throughout the box. Scrunch paper to fill in gaps that can’t be filled to ensure nothing moves in the boxes. When you get to the top put layers of scrunched paper at the top to make sure the box is full and can be stacked if necessary. Tape up the box and label with key items and which room its from. Large boxes are for bulky lighter items (toys, doonas, linen etc) smaller boxes are for heavier items (books, pans, Vases etc)
Keep an essentials box. Put items like toiletries, remotes, wires, keys, batteries, documents, tea, coffee, paper plates, cups, cutlery and napkins
Have a bag each per family member with a towel, clothes, underwear and personal items
Keep all your valuables in a safe place Jewellery, phones, iPads, car keys etc
The night before
Take animals to the babysitters
Keep to one side things you may need for the morning, breakfast things, essentials box and bags.
Treat yourself to dinner out! No cooking tonight!
On the day
Relax, the team are with you and have done this so many times, they’ll stack the truck and be on their way to the new place before you know it.
Collect your keys and take any items you’re transporting in your car over to the new house
Once the guys arrive at the new house give them any special instructions you may have ie. Where you want certain things to go
You can be unpacking while they move your stuff in
Wow well done! You’ve done it! Welcome to your beautiful new home
